Vol. 1, No. 1 (2026): Indian History Journal (June – August 2026)

It is with great pride and a deep sense of academic purpose that Allahabad Academic Press presents the inaugural issue of the Indian History Journal, marking the formal launch of this new scholarly platform dedicated to the rigorous study of Indian historical research. This moment represents not merely the release of a first issue, but the beginning of a long-term editorial commitment to fostering original, evidence-based, and methodologically sound scholarship on the history of the Indian subcontinent.

The journey to this inaugural issue began with an open call for abstracts, which was met with an overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic response from the historical research community. Scholars, historians, doctoral researchers, and academicians from a wide range of institutions came forward with their work, reflecting a genuine and growing interest in the vision that the Indian History Journal set out to fulfil — a dedicated, high-quality home for Indian historiography. The editorial board received a substantial volume of submissions covering diverse themes, periods, and regions, a response that affirmed the need for precisely such a platform within the academic landscape.

Every submitted manuscript was subjected to a thorough and transparent double-blind peer review process, carefully overseen by Editorial Board, Editor -in- Chief, Managing Editor of the IHJ Ms. Nazreen and Executive Editor of the IHJ and Press Mohammad Salman, whose editorial guidance shaped the rigorous standards upheld throughout the selection process. Each paper was evaluated on the strength of its originality, the depth of its research methodology, the quality of its engagement with primary and secondary sources, and its overall contribution to the existing body of historical knowledge. Only those manuscripts that met the journal's exacting academic standards were carried forward for publication.

After this rigorous process of review and refinement, the editorial team is delighted to present 18 peer-reviewed research papers in this inaugural issue, a collection that stands as a testament to the depth, diversity, and vitality of contemporary historical scholarship on India. These papers traverse a wide chronological and thematic canvas, offering readers fresh perspectives, new archival insights, and thoughtful reinterpretations of India's rich and complex past. The contributors to this volume include both established historians whose work has long shaped the field, as well as emerging researchers and young scholars who bring new energy, new questions, and new methodologies to the study of Indian history.

This inaugural volume is more than a collection of research papers; it is a statement of intent. It reflects the editorial standards, the academic rigor, and the spirit of intellectual openness that will define every future issue of the Indian History Journal. It is our sincere hope that this first issue will serve as a benchmark — a foundation upon which the journal's reputation for excellence, integrity, and scholarly depth will continue to be built in the issues that follow.

We warmly welcome our readers — scholars, students, researchers, and lovers of history alike — to explore this inaugural collection. Whether your interest lies in ancient civilizations, medieval kingdoms, the colonial encounter, the freedom struggle, or the post-independence nation-building era, we invite you to engage deeply with the scholarship presented here. We hope this issue sparks new conversations, inspires further research, and welcomes you into what we envision as a growing and vibrant community of historians dedicated to understanding India's past with clarity, rigor, and care.

We thank all our contributors, reviewers, and readers for being part of this inaugural moment, and we look forward to continuing this journey of historical discovery together, issue after issue.
