Editorial Operations
Submission and Publication Process
Authors are required to submit their manuscripts through the official online submission system of the Indian History Journal (IHJ):
Submission Portal:
https://journals.allahabadacademicpress.com/index.php/ihjournal/en/about/submissions
All submissions must be made exclusively through the journal’s official online platform.
Authors are advised to carefully read the Author Guidelines before submitting their manuscripts and ensure that all formatting, citation, and submission requirements have been followed.
Criteria Check
Following submission, each manuscript undergoes a preliminary Criteria Check conducted by the Editorial Office. This assessment includes:
Scope and Word Count Compliance
The manuscript is evaluated to determine whether it falls within the academic scope of the Indian History Journal and complies with the prescribed word-count and submission requirements.
Similarity Index Review
The similarity (quote percentage) is assessed based on the proportion of quoted or matching material in relation to the total word count. The expected similarity threshold is generally below 25%, subject to editorial assessment and the nature of the manuscript.
Plagiarism Screening
IHJ follows a strict Zero Plagiarism Policy in accordance with recognised standards of publication ethics, including the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism, substantial unattributed material, fabricated content, or other serious breaches of academic integrity may be rejected at any stage of the editorial or publication process.
Authors will receive an acknowledgment of their submission and notification regarding whether the manuscript has passed the preliminary Criteria Check within 30 days of submission.
If no communication is received within 30 days, authors may contact the Editorial Office at:
Email: ihjournal@allahabadacademicpress.com
Peer Review Rounds
The Indian History Journal follows a double-blind peer review policy.
- Manuscripts are normally evaluated by at least two subject experts.
- Where required, additional reviewers may be invited.
- Reviewer identities remain confidential from authors, and author identities remain confidential from reviewers.
- Reviewers are selected according to their subject expertise, research specialisation, academic credentials, and the requirements of the manuscript.
Scholars interested in serving as peer reviewers for IHJ may submit their CV and research interests to the journal’s official email.
Editorial Evaluation and Revision
Following peer review, manuscripts undergo further editorial evaluation before a final publication decision is reached.
Depending on the reviewers’ and editors’ assessments, a manuscript may be:
- Accepted;
- Accepted subject to minor revisions;
- Returned for major revisions and further review; or
- Rejected.
Submissions may therefore pass through multiple rounds of revision and evaluation.
Authors are expected to address the comments and recommendations provided by both peer reviewers and the Editorial Team. Revised manuscripts should clearly incorporate the required changes and, where appropriate, provide a response to the reviewers’ comments.
Authors are also responsible for ensuring that the final manuscript has been properly proofread and conforms to the journal’s prescribed citation, referencing, formatting, and style requirements as specified in the Author Guidelines.
Author Agreement
Once a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication, the author(s) will be required to complete and sign an Author Agreement/Publication Contract before the manuscript proceeds to final publication processing.
The agreement establishes the terms governing publication, author rights, permissions, and the journal’s publication of the accepted work.
Formatting and Typesetting
After successful completion of the editorial and revision process, the accepted manuscript is prepared for publication.
The manuscript is forwarded for professional copyediting, formatting, and typesetting in accordance with the journal’s publication standards.
Final proofs may be shared with the author(s) for verification and correction of minor typographical, factual, or formatting errors before publication.
Substantive changes to the manuscript at the proof stage may not be permitted unless specifically approved by the Editorial Team.
Publication Model
The Indian History Journal follows an Issue-Based Publication Model.
IHJ does not follow a Continuous Publication or rolling publication system. Accepted manuscripts are scheduled for publication within a designated issue and are published collectively on the journal’s officially announced release date.
The publication schedule and release date of each issue are formally announced by the Editorial Office.
Depending on the scope and editorial programme of an issue, the journal may publish:
- Research Articles
- Review Essays
- Historiographical Essays
- Book Reviews
- Archival and Source-Based Studies
- Research Notes
- Special Submissions
- Forum Discussions
- Responses and Rejoinders, where applicable
Pagination is maintained systematically within each issue to ensure consistent citation and bibliographic identification.
Post-Publication
Following publication, all articles published in the Indian History Journal:
- Are made available online in open-access format;
- Receive appropriate bibliographic and citation metadata;
- Are assigned persistent publication identifiers where applicable;
- Remain permanently accessible through the journal’s official platform; and
- Form part of the journal’s permanent scholarly record.
Authors are encouraged to cite the officially published version of their work using the citation information provided by the journal.
